About the Artist
Bunpan expresses his Buddhist devotion through his art in a variety of techniques, images and colourings. Whereas his temple paintings in Thailand and abroad follow traditional schemes, his acrylic paintings are free to explore contemporary styles and variations. Bunpan stresses the sacred significance for Buddhism of the lotus flower with his lavish application of gold and silver to the canvas. This may be in combination with a palette of pale colourings, as in his 2006 Bodhi Tree or in the starkly contrasted Buddha Diptych of the same year. The application of gold leaf the artist uses to blend pleasingly with the surface texture of his acrylics; the appearance of miniature Buddha statuettes in his Buddha Diptych is a strikingly original twist in the use of textured paint surfaces. His art captures modern vigorous and colourful Buddhist devotion of Thailand. His career is already marked by success and we predict that his art will mature from strength to strength as his contemporary message of spirituality reaches out to an evermore international public.
